SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM

SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” — Matthew 6:33 (KJV)

WHO SPOKE AND WHEN Jesus spoke these words in the Sermon on the Mount. He had warned that no one can serve both God and mammon, then taught His hearers not to be consumed by food, drink, or clothing because their heavenly Father knows what they need (Matthew 6:24–32).

MEANING Jesus commands His disciples to give God’s kingdom and righteousness first place. “All these things” points back to the daily necessities He had just named; it is not a promise of riches. The Father’s care frees believers to seek His will instead of being ruled by worry.

APPLICATION Pray, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done” (Matthew 6:10). Place today’s decision under Christ’s rule, choose what is righteous, and entrust your needs to the Father.

JESUS IS THE WAY

JESUS IS THE WAY

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” — John 14:6 (KJV)

WHO SPOKE AND WHEN Jesus spoke to His disciples on the night before His crucifixion. After He said He was going to prepare a place for them, Thomas asked how they could know the way (John 14:1–5).

MEANING Jesus did not merely point to a route; He declared that He Himself is the way, the truth, and the life. Access to the Father is through the Son. This agrees with the apostolic witness that salvation is found in no other name (Acts 4:12).

APPLICATION Come to the Father through Jesus Christ. Trust who He is and what He accomplished through His death and resurrection. Let faith show itself in love and obedience, for Jesus also said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

THE KINGDOM IS AT HAND

THE KINGDOM IS AT HAND

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” — Mark 1:15 (KJV)

WHO SPOKE AND WHEN After John the Baptist was imprisoned, Jesus came into Galilee preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God (Mark 1:14). These words summarize His opening proclamation.

MEANING God’s promised time had arrived, and His kingdom had drawn near in the ministry of the King. Jesus called for two inseparable responses: repent and believe. Repentance turns from sin toward God; belief receives the good news and trusts Jesus Christ, the Son of God (Mark 1:1).

APPLICATION Do not postpone Christ’s call. Confess the sin God’s Word exposes, turn from it, and trust the Lord Jesus. Then follow Him as Simon and Andrew did when He called them (Mark 1:16–18).

GOD SHOWED HIS LOVE

GOD SHOWED HIS LOVE

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8 (KJV)

WHO SPOKE AND WHEN Paul wrote to believers in Rome while explaining the peace with God that comes through justification by faith (Romans 5:1). He described humanity as without strength, ungodly, sinners, and enemies when Christ died (Romans 5:6–10).

MEANING God’s love is demonstrated in history at the cross. Christ did not wait for people to make themselves worthy. He died for sinners. Reconciliation and justification are received through Jesus Christ; they are not wages earned by human goodness.

APPLICATION Come to God honestly, without trying to hide your sin or purchase His favor. Trust Jesus Christ and His saving death. Then imitate His love: “walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us” (Ephesians 5:2).

YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN

YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” — John 3:3 (KJV)

WHO SPOKE AND WHEN Jesus spoke privately with Nicodemus, a Pharisee and ruler of the Jews who came to Him at night and recognized that God was with Him (John 3:1–2).

MEANING Religious position and knowledge could not give Nicodemus entrance into God’s kingdom. Jesus said a person must receive new life from above, born of the Spirit (John 3:5–8). The passage then directs faith to the Son of Man who would be lifted up so that believers may have eternal life (John 3:14–18).

APPLICATION Do not rely on family background, church attendance, or good works. Turn to God and believe in His Son. Ask Him to make you new, and let the new life appear in walking in the light (John 3:19–21).

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” — Psalm 23:1 (KJV)

WHO SPOKE AND WHEN Psalm 23 identifies itself as a psalm of David. David had known the work of a shepherd and later carried the responsibility of a king. He spoke of the LORD through the familiar picture of a shepherd caring for his flock.

MEANING David’s confidence rests in who the LORD is. The Shepherd makes His sheep lie down, leads them, restores them, guides them in righteousness, and remains with them through the valley (Psalm 23:2–4). “I shall not want” expresses trust in His faithful care; it does not mean every human desire will be granted.

APPLICATION Name your need before the Lord, then follow the path of righteousness He sets before you. In today’s fearful place, remember: “thou art with me” (Psalm 23:4). Jesus identifies Himself as the good shepherd who gives His life for the sheep (John 10:11).

JEHOVÁ ES MI PASTOR

“JEHOVÁ es mi pastor; nada me faltará.” — Salmos 23:1 (RVR09)

ENTER THE NARROW GATE

ENTER THE NARROW GATE

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” — Matthew 7:13–14 (KJV)

WHO SPOKE AND WHEN Jesus spoke these words near the close of the Sermon on the Mount. He was pressing His hearers to respond to His teaching, not merely admire it (Matthew 7:24–27).

MEANING Jesus describes two ways and two destinations. The road followed by many ends in destruction; the narrow way leads to life. Truth is not established by popularity. Jesus later said, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved” (John 10:9).

APPLICATION Enter through Christ by repentance and faith. Refuse to let the crowd decide what is true. Hear Jesus’ words and do them, building your life upon the rock (Matthew 7:24–25).

Estaba llamando a Sus oyentes a responder a Su enseñanza y no solamente admirarla (San Mateo 7:24–27).

BRING EVERY CARE TO GOD

BRING EVERY CARE TO GOD

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:6–7 (KJV)

WHO SPOKE AND WHEN Paul wrote to the believers at Philippi while imprisoned. He urged them to stand firm, rejoice in the Lord, and remember that “The Lord is at hand” (Philippians 4:1, 4–5).

MEANING Paul does not tell believers to pretend trouble is absent. He directs every concern into prayer, specific petition, and thanksgiving. God promises His peace as a guard over hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. The promise is His guarding peace, not the immediate removal of every difficult circumstance.

APPLICATION Name one worry before God. Turn it into a clear request and thank Him for a truth already revealed in His Word. Then set your mind on what is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8).

LLEVA TODA PREOCUPACIÓN A DIOS

MORE THAN SAYING “LORD”

MORE THAN SAYING “LORD”

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 7:21 (KJV)

WHO SPOKE AND WHEN Jesus gave this warning near the end of the Sermon on the Mount. He spoke of false prophets, their fruit, empty profession, and the final day of judgment (Matthew 7:15–23).

MEANING Calling Jesus “Lord” or pointing to impressive works cannot replace truly knowing Him. In this same sermon, Jesus joins hearing His words with doing them (Matthew 7:24). Scripture states that the Father’s will includes believing on the Son for everlasting life (John 6:40). Obedience is the fruit of real faith, not a performance that purchases salvation.

APPLICATION Examine whether your confession is joined to trust in Christ and obedience to His Word. Repent of empty religion. Believe the Son, receive His grace, and obey one command of Jesus today.

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” — Galatians 5:22–23 (KJV)

WHO SPOKE AND WHEN Paul wrote to churches in Galatia that were being troubled about the gospel of grace and the law. He taught that believers are called to liberty, yet must use that liberty to serve one another by love (Galatians 5:1, 13).

MEANING Paul contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:19–23). This fruit is not a list of qualities by which we earn salvation. It is the character the Spirit forms in those who belong to Christ, who have crucified the flesh and are called to walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:24–25).

APPLICATION Ask the Holy Spirit to expose the work of the flesh in you. Turn from it. In today’s closest relationship, deliberately practice love, patience, kindness, gentleness, and self-control.

MONEY AND GOD

MONEY AND GOD

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” — Matthew 6:24 (KJV)

CONTEXT Jesus spoke in the Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew 6:19–34, He contrasts treasure on earth with treasure in heaven, then teaches His disciples not to be ruled by anxiety over daily needs.

MEANING Jesus does not say that money itself is evil. He says that it cannot be a master alongside God. A divided allegiance finally chooses one ruler. The Father’s care, explained in the verses that follow, frees believers to seek God first rather than make wealth their security.

APPLICATION Ask what directs today’s choices: the will of God or the pursuit of more. Use what God provides with gratitude and honesty. Seek His kingdom and righteousness first (Matthew 6:33).

Busca primero Su reino y Su justicia (San Mateo 6:33).

THE SHREWD MANAGER: FAITHFUL IN LITTLE

“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.” — Luke 16:10 (KJV)

CONTEXT Jesus told the parable of the unjust steward in Luke 16:1–9 and then continued with this instruction. The steward’s dishonesty is not praised; Jesus calls him unjust. The lesson presses His hearers to think seriously about how they handle what has been entrusted to them.

MEANING Faithfulness is not measured only by large responsibilities. Jesus joins small and great things: the manner in which a person handles the little reveals the direction of the heart.

APPLICATION Be truthful and responsible in the ordinary duties God has placed before you. Steward time, words, work, possessions, and relationships before Him. Faithfulness is lived in the daily things that others may overlook.

BE PREPARED

BE PREPARED

“Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” — Matthew 25:13 (KJV)

CONTEXT Jesus spoke this at the close of the parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25:1–13. The parable follows His teaching about His coming and calls His disciples to watchfulness.

MEANING Jesus does not give a date for His return. He commands watchfulness. In the parable, the wise were ready when the bridegroom came; the foolish were unprepared. The point is not speculation, but readiness before the Son of Man.

APPLICATION Do not put off responding to Christ. Trust Him, remain in His word, and live as one who expects to give account to Him. Readiness is not panic; it is faithful waiting.

ESPAÑOL

ESTAD PREPARADOS

APLICACIÓN No pospongas responder a Cristo.

WALK IN THE SPIRIT

WALK IN THE SPIRIT

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” — Galatians 5:16 (KJV)

CONTEXT Paul wrote to the churches of Galatia after defending the gospel of justification by faith. In Galatians 5, he teaches that Christian freedom is not an opportunity for the flesh, but a call to serve one another in love.

MEANING Paul describes a real conflict between the flesh and the Spirit. The answer is not self-made righteousness. Believers are called to walk under the Spirit’s direction, and the fruit of the Spirit is described in Galatians 5:22–23.

APPLICATION Bring your desires and choices under God’s word. Pray for the Spirit’s help, refuse the works of the flesh named in the passage, and pursue the fruit He produces.

ENDURANCE

ENDURANCE

“For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.” — Hebrews 10:36 (KJV)

CONTEXT The writer of Hebrews addresses believers who had endured public reproach, affliction, and the loss of possessions (Hebrews 10:32–34). He urges them not to cast away their confidence and points them to the coming of Christ.

MEANING The passage calls for endurance in doing God’s will. The promise is spoken within the writer’s call to persevere by faith, not as a guarantee that every present hardship will quickly disappear.

APPLICATION Keep obeying God when faithfulness is costly or unnoticed. Hold fast to Christ, encourage other believers, and remember that the righteous live by faith (Hebrews 10:38).

ESPAÑOL

PERSEVERANCIA

ASK GOD FOR WISDOM

ASK GOD FOR WISDOM

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” — James 1:5 (KJV)

CONTEXT James writes to believers scattered abroad. He begins by addressing trials, explaining that the testing of faith works patience, and then directs the one who lacks wisdom to ask God.

MEANING Wisdom here belongs to the setting of trials. James does not offer a shortcut to knowing every outcome. He directs believers to God, who gives generously, and he immediately calls them to ask in faith (James 1:6).

APPLICATION When a difficult decision or trial exposes your lack of wisdom, ask God. Let Scripture shape the request, trust His character, and obey what His word makes clear.

ESPAÑOL

PIDAMOS A DIOS SABIDURÍA

— Santiago 1:5 (RVR09)

CONTEXTO Santiago escribe a creyentes esparcidos.

OBEDIENCE FLOWING FROM LOVE

OBEDIENCE FLOWING FROM LOVE

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” — John 14:15 (KJV)

CONTEXT Jesus spoke these words to His disciples on the night before His crucifixion. In John 13–17, He prepares them for His departure, promises the Helper, and calls them to remain in His love.

MEANING Jesus joins love for Him with obedience to His commands. He is not describing a way to earn His love. In the same conversation He speaks of His own love for the disciples and of the Father sending the Spirit (John 14:16–17).

APPLICATION Let love for Christ be seen in concrete obedience to His teaching. Read His commands in their setting, turn from known sin, and ask for the Spirit’s help to walk as His disciple.

ESPAÑOL

OBEDIENCIA QUE NACE DEL AMOR

“Si me amáis, guardad mis mandamientos.” — San Juan 14:15 (RVR09)

PRAYER WITH THANKSGIVING

PRAYER WITH THANKSGIVING

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” — Philippians 4:6 (KJV)

CONTEXT Paul writes from imprisonment to the church at Philippi. Near the close of the letter, he calls the believers to rejoice in the Lord, to be known for gentleness, and to bring every concern to God.

MEANING Paul does not minimize trouble. He directs anxious believers toward prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving. The next verse speaks of the peace of God guarding hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

APPLICATION Name your concern before God instead of carrying it alone. Pray specifically, give thanks for what is true of God, and return your thoughts to the things Paul names in Philippians 4:8.

THE UNITY OF THE SPIRIT

THE UNITY OF THE SPIRIT

“Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” — Ephesians 4:3 (KJV)

CONTEXT Paul turns in Ephesians 4 from the riches believers have in Christ to the way they are to walk. He urges humility, meekness, longsuffering, and forbearing one another in love before speaking of unity.

MEANING Believers do not manufacture the unity of the Spirit; they are to keep it. Paul grounds this unity in the one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father (Ephesians 4:4–6).

APPLICATION Pursue peace with humility and patience. Refuse needless division, speak truth in love, and remember that Christian unity is rooted in the gospel and the Lord who has made His people one.

REPENT AND TURN TO GOD

REPENT AND TURN TO GOD

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.” — Acts 3:19a (KJV)

CONTEXT Peter spoke after God healed a lame man at the temple gate. He told the gathered Israelites that they had denied the Holy and Just One, yet proclaimed that God had raised Jesus from the dead (Acts 3:13–15).

MEANING Peter calls his hearers to repent and turn. Repentance is not simply regret; it is a turning from sin to God. The forgiveness he announces is grounded in the risen Jesus whom God sent.

APPLICATION Come honestly to God through Jesus Christ. Do not excuse known sin. Turn from it, trust the risen Lord, and continue in the repentance that belongs to a life of faith.

ESPAÑOL

ARREPENTÍOS Y VOLVEOS A DIOS

SIGNIFICADO Pedro llama a arrepentirse y convertirse.

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH WHAT CHRIST HAS ENTRUSTED?

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH WHAT CHRIST HAS ENTRUSTED?

“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” — Matthew 25:21 (KJV)

CONTEXT Jesus told the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14–30. A man entrusted his servants with differing amounts before travelling. When he returned, he called them to account. The faithful servants acted with what they received; the servant who hid his talent was rebuked.

MEANING The parable calls for faithful service while the master is away and points to accountability when he returns. Jesus does not present the talents as a promise of earthly success. The servants answer to their lord for what he entrusted to them.

APPLICATION Do not bury what Christ has placed in your care. Serve Him faithfully with the time, opportunities, possessions, and truth He has given. He is Lord, and He will return.

THE KING'S INVITATION

THE KING'S INVITATION

“For many are called, but few are chosen.” — Matthew 22:14 (KJV)

CONTEXT Jesus told the parable of the marriage feast in Matthew 22:1–14. A king prepared a wedding feast for his son. Those first invited would not come; some mistreated and killed the king’s servants. The king then called others from the roads, and Jesus closed with this statement.

MEANING The parable warns against treating the King’s invitation lightly. Jesus speaks in a setting where religious leaders opposed Him and rejected God’s messengers. The invitation is serious because it is the King’s invitation to the wedding of His Son.

APPLICATION Do not assume that hearing the invitation is the same as responding rightly to the King. Hear Jesus, repent, believe the gospel, and come to Him on His terms.

ESPAÑOL

LA INVITACIÓN DEL REY

“Porque muchos son llamados, y pocos escogidos.” — San Mateo 22:14 (RVR09)

JESUS' URGENT CALL TO REPENT

JESUS' URGENT CALL TO REPENT

“I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” — Luke 13:3 (KJV)

CONTEXT Some people told Jesus about Galileans killed by Pilate. Jesus did not say their deaths proved they were worse sinners than others. He turned the question toward every hearer: all need repentance (Luke 13:1–5).

MEANING Jesus rejects the false comfort of comparing ourselves with other sinners. He gives an urgent warning: apart from repentance, people perish. The warning is spoken by the One who came to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10).

APPLICATION Do not delay because you think another person’s sin is worse than yours. Turn from sin to God. Hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, believe in Him, and come to Him today.

EL LLAMADO URGENTE DE JESÚS AL ARREPENTIMIENTO

“Os digo: No; antes si no os arrepintiereis, todos pereceréis igualmente.” — San Lucas 13:3 (RVR09)

WHEN WORLDLY SECURITY FAILS

WHEN WORLDLY SECURITY FAILS

“But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?” — Luke 12:20 (KJV)

CONTEXT Jesus told the parable of the rich fool after warning, “Take heed, and beware of covetousness” (Luke 12:15). The man planned larger barns and spoke to his soul of ease, yet he was not rich toward God.

MEANING Jesus exposes the folly of building a life on possessions while ignoring God. The man could not keep his life, and his stored goods could not answer for his soul. Jesus ends the parable by warning against laying up treasure for oneself without being rich toward God.

APPLICATION Let this warning search your heart. Do not make possessions, plans, or comfort your security. Come to Christ, treasure Him above the world, and live before God who gives life.

WHAT DOES IT PROFIT TO GAIN THE WORLD?

WHAT DOES IT PROFIT TO GAIN THE WORLD?

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” — Mark 8:36 (KJV)

CONTEXT Jesus spoke after telling the crowd and His disciples that anyone who would come after Him must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Him (Mark 8:34–35).

MEANING Jesus sets the whole world against the soul and shows that the exchange is ruinous. The passage does not condemn work, possessions, or responsibility. It confronts the person who would keep the world while refusing Christ.

APPLICATION If you profess Christ yet still love what opposes Him, hear His words. Examine what you pursue, repent where the world rules your heart, and follow Jesus above every rival. No worldly gain is worth the loss of your soul.
